The goal of Ananya’s research is to improve process-based modeling of the soil-plant-atmospheric continuum, with a focus on the ways in which canopy structural characteristics affect hydrological processes like runoff generation, infiltration, and rainfall partitioning. She create and improve models that use canopy dynamics to better predict hydrological processes in a variety of ecosystems. These models can be used to forecast floods and droughts in the face of shifting environmental conditions. Her work will improve water resource management strategies by bridging hydrological modeling and ecological processes.
